One advantage of shooting on a tripod is, that it gives you one hand to do other things. On rainy mornings for example you can hold an umbrella, the only umbrella I had with me was one for the beach that always sits in the back of my car. If you ever wondered whether beach umbrellas are water proof, do not try it - they are not.
